Avatar U
Avatar U

Client: The N / TeenNick / Viacom
Audience: Tween-Young Adult
Platform: Web

Avatar University is the sequel to our popular hit game Avatar High. For Avatar U we started with our proven Sims-like design — the player directing the daily lives of a school full of students. The target player was older, so we created a more sophisticated presentation: a much bigger world, “older situations” and a stronger focus on relationships and social media. AU also featured a lot of planning and schedule juggling replicating the “not enough hours in a day” life of a college student.

College Simulation

Players loved our dynamic AIs where each student had their own unique personality. They might hit it off on their own or with a little prompting from players, making friends, discussing other students, dating, breaking up — all the drama players could imagine.

Explore the Campus

Left unprompted, students would go about their day visiting all the activities on campus — studying, partying, protesting, relaxing with friends. But players could also engage them in role playing game-like quests to achieve goals like mastering the guitar, getting popular or acing the big test.

Making Connections

Each student had their own loves and hates. Via a dynamic Sims-like conversation system the students learn about each other and bond over their shared interests. Players can watch and encourage, or see how it plays out when total opposites interact.

Socials

Every student had their own Facebook-esque social media page, where they would post comments on their day and about their emotional state. Players could check out dynamically generated “photos” on the page and see posts from the student’s friends as well.
